Spend More Money at Slumberland and SAVE LESS!!!

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Slumberlands Questionable Deal Occassionally, I see something that just strikes me as stupid and I feel compelled to tell the whole world about it. This Slumberland offer just piqued my interest. The deal is simple, the more money you spend with them, the more money they knock off the total price - sort of. If you look at this as a ratio, money saved per dollar spent, you actually save more money by spending less! The rest of the rant follows after the jump. (more…)

Rackspace Keeping Tabs?

Rackspace Logo Yesterday I posted about an email I received from Rackspace regarding their $600 referral promotion. Surprisingly alynfamily.com had a real spike in traffic as a result. I guess they spend more time keeping up with their brand than they do their customers? Did this really warrant 21 visits? (more…)

Another Time Eating Website

Magmypic Head Shot - PC Gamer In an effort to cache in on the latest and greatest Social Networking craze, sites are using weirder and weirder methods to get folks to use their tools. I stumbled onto this one from a Photojojo article today. The site MagMyPic has a number of photo magazines they’ve cropped out that you can insert your photos into. I figured I’d check it out and found they had a link to post it directly to Facebook - only to find out they wanted me to add the application (probably followed by some invites and so on) so I decided to grab the photo and let everyone just see the result here instead. The idea is cute even if their viral marketing is draconian. It reminds me of the Photo Cutout Tool developed by Cate Sia at NWF many moons ago (2004). Apparently NWF was ahead of their time - they should bring it back. Oskar was in the training video - although he probably didn’t realized it at the time.

OpenSocial is Getting Better

OpenSocial Logo

Some folks will recall back in November I wrote how OpenSocial was irrelevant as a platform for social networking applications. I’ve been working with it for the last three days on MySpace and have to say, over the last few months the folks at MySpace have been working hard to bring OpenSocial to a usable reality. I’ve had some time this week to experiment with it and I must say - while certainly not “done” it’s come a VERY long way. Warning: This is going to get kinda lame for those who don’t care about Social Networks and application development. (more…)

iWant: iPod Touch >= 32Gb

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

iPod Touch Yes, I realize this hasn’t been released (or even announced for that matter) but I still want one. I suspect they’re going to be pricey when they are finally released but please, oh please Apple, release a high capacity version, I’ve been waiting for 2 years to upgrade!

Why OpenSocial doesn’t matter - yet.

OpenSocial

OpenSocial, is a new open standard for applications to integrate with some of the largest social networks in the world. On the surface, OpenSocial is a great move forward for application developers. The learning curve for FBML and FQL at Facebook is trivial at best, but just as learning many similar languages at once, having one simple API to reference is ultimately much easier. The portability of write once, run anywhere brings back to mind the panacea called Java. However, in reality, OpenSocial promotes frivolous time wasting applications that lack any real utility. This may change (and I sincerely hope it does) in future iterations, but for now, Facebook has the social networking platform to beat.
