Not sure anyone noticed we were gone, but just in case – we were down yesterday because of Amazon’s EC2 outage in Northern Virginia… Anyway, lots of sites went down, I didn’t get much sleep and it’s all coming back to normal now. As you were!

Christmas 2009

Dear Family,

After much discussion and consideration we have decided we do not want material gifts for Christmas this year. We want to make Christmas about something more. We want to make it about spending time with the people we love. So now would be a great time to make a plan to do something fun with all of The Alyn Family, or you could make a plan with one or both of our kids, and give Egg and I some time together.

Please watch this video.

You may send a gift to Oskar and Xavier if you feel the need to, but please nothing for Egg or I. If you feel you need to do something for us, please donate to a charity in our name.

Trying to get a hold of us???

A big storm blew through today and as a result, we’ll be without phone service until the 17th (or there abouts according to Quest). It was due to a downed tree collecting the telephone wire on it’s way down. Took out cable TV/internet as well, although Charter has restored that. If you need to get a hold of us call our cell phones. Lots of photos below.

Lucky for us, no major damage, a couple of broken stones in the wall and of course a few less branches on some trees I was considering taking down anyway.

Yesterday the boys and I went for an after dinner walk / photostroll around the neighborhood. I snapped off a few pics on my cell phone here. I love the old prairie style architecture that’s so prevalent here – oh and the kids are cute too!

It’s hard to see him in this picture, but Xavier’s looking at me through some binoculars we had left over from Oskar’s bug expedition birthday party in Dundee, IL.

Peter Jackson to Film the Hobbit

TheOneRing.net reports that Peter Jackson, the master mind behind the Lord of the Rings Trilogy based on JRR Tolkien’s story will be filming the Hobbit! It’s funny because just last night I decided to pop one of the old DVD’s into the player and watched the first disc in the trilogy. Only a couple of short years and I know what I’ll be doing. It’s mine, my precioussssssssss….

USA – The new rainforest

I decided to check out the weather this morning to see if the race this weekend would be wet or dry. Much to my surprise, it looks like most of the country is going to see wet in the next 36 hours.
