Does gravity apply to children?

Saturday, September 16th, 2006

Xavier experimented with gravity just now by tossing himself down a flight of stairs. When he got to the bottom, he decided that he didn’t like that at all and scared his mom and big brother a whole bunch. Dad was out in the garage and had assumed it was a toy or something until the scream came.

Xavier in a full size bed

Saturday, September 16th, 2006

Xavier survived his first night in a big kid bed. Since he no longer stays in his crib, we moved him into Oskar’s old baby bed and he did okay. For whatever reason, he can’t open the door to his room yet (although he can open every other door in the house!)

Little Houdini

Friday, September 15th, 2006

Xavier has become quite the little escape artist. Last night when we cried for a bottle we heard some serious crying, then it got softer as he discovered his piano and the door knob. Yep, that’s right, he’s out when he wants now, right over the top of the crib.

The Sun appears to be returning today - lifting that darkeness finally! Gretchen heads back to the doctors today to get some follow-up information on why she’s been so tired and seems to be getting over her cold/sickness/allergies thing. Xavier’s working on speaking still, he occassionally will try to mimick sounds and his sign lanuage vocabulary has grown as well - help, more, book etc.

Joined a Gym

Monday, September 11th, 2006

I joined Gretchen’s Gym today - and so far I’m getting close to 185lbs on South Beach. And while we’re talking about health and general well being, Gretchen’s hacking cough seems to be going away.

Happy Birthday

Monday, September 11th, 2006

Happy Birthday Chris. Oskar is the student of the week this week so he’s off to school this morning with a stuffed animal, a favorite book and of course his snack and everything else you need for Kindergarten.

Irish Fest

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

Yesterday (and for the rest of this rainy weekend) is Irish Fest at the Catholic Church in West Dundee. We went yesterday and although I didn’t get too many pictures, I snapped a few of the boys and posted a them since it’s been a while. Xavier enjoyed the Irish Dancing as well as the music and funnel cakes.

Chris left yesterday for a weekend in Virginia and Oskar and I attended the Ice-Cream Social at Dundee Highlands. Dairy Queen provided the ice cream for $1.50 each and generally it looked like a good time was had by all. Gretchen went to the doctors to see if she can get over this really nasty cold she has. We should know in a couple of days. The doctor thinks it’s mostly allergens. Xavier is learning to talk now. He signs and utters something that sounds like “more” and “out” predictably. He has a few other utterances as well, but he’s not reciting Roald Dahl or E. B. White quite yet.

I survived another two Chicago Autocross events. I finished poorly overall in both, but am starting to feel like I know the car. Chris had an alignment put on the car based on someone else’s recommendations (who is currently running first in our class in the same type of car) and after wearing the tires into the setup, the car felt good. I forgot the camera and so there’s no pictures of the event at all. I’ll see if I can find some online. Gretchen, Oskar and Xavier survived the two day event with some help from Patty. It’s looking to be a rainy Labor Day weekend here. We were hoping to go to Geneva today, so perhaps the rain will stop mid morning and we can enjoy the rest of the day.
